Planning for harvest and vine desiccation is an ongoing course of action and sometimes new or improved methods are included in the plans. Chemical and/or mechanical practices have specific advantages depending on expectations. Determining these expectations is helpful when making the harvest plans. Edwin Plissey, University of Maine retired extension potato specialist, has often been asked if the advantages from vine desiccation are worth not only the cost, but also the preparation delays expected prior to harvest.
