Much of what has been written on the subject of copyright since the development ofthe Internet and e-technology has focused primarily on its economic impact. Theensuing debate formed directly opposing positions—those advocating greaterregulation to protect the rights of the copyright holder and their opponents claimingthat the internet should be a free and unrestricted environment. The debate has beendeadlocked for over a decade, with little compromise on either side.
