To write a review of a monograph could be fairly easy since the author normally focuses, in essence, on one topic and tries to develop.it to the fullest possible extent. To write a review of a collected volume is still relatively feasible since there is one overarching theme around which the contributions are grouped together. To write a review of a yearbook like the Gutenberg-Jahrbuch challenges, however, almost to a breaking point because the only common denominator here is the. world of books and book printing throughout the centuries in virtually.all cultures. Of course, this is not meant as a criticism, but as an explanation why this reviewer is struggling to come to terms with the present volume, which is, as usual, beautifully and attractively edited, being a premier publishing organ for all scholarly investigations in that field of book and print studies.
