Paraphilias in schizophrenia: differential diagnosis and treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

Paraphilias in schizophrenia are relatively rare due to the natural course of schizophrenia itself or to long-term exposure to psycho-tropics (Malik, 2007). Current medications for paraphilias could be categorized into two main groups: the hormonal agents and psychotropics (Briken and Kafka, 2007; Guay, 2009). We hereby present a case of paraphilia that developed in a patient with schizophrenia, in which paraphilic behavior was successfully managed with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI).
