A case of Cotard's Syndrome successfully treated with aripiprazole monotherapy.

Sir: in 1880, Jules Cotard described a condition characterized by delusion of negation with corporeal themes in a melancholia context. Recently, Berrios and Luque (1995) described three types of Cotard's Syndrome: 1) Psychotic depression, where the picture of melancholia overhangs the nihilistic delusions. 2) Cotard type I, with more prominent delusions in comparison to the depressive picture and 3) Cotard type II (Mixed group) wherein symptoms are all fully present. We here report on a female patient who developed Cotard's Syndrome while receiving venlafaxine and remitted following discontinuation of venlafaxine and introducing aripipra-zole monotherapy.
