Dose-related hyperprolactinemia induced by venlafaxine.

Hyperprolactinemia can be induced by psychotropic medications including antipsychotics and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, and cause galactorrhea, amenorrhea, infertility, and decreased libido in women. Recently, galactorrhea induced by venlafaxine, alone (Bhatia et al., 2000; Sternbach, 2003; Wichman and Cunningham, 2008) or in combination with other psychotropic agents (Pae et al., 2004; Ashton and Longdon, 2007), has been described in some case reports, with or without measurement of prolactin levels. Here we report a case manifesting dose-related prolactin elevation under venlafaxine administration.
