Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning (CMP) includes acute encephalopathy of CMP (AECMP) and delayed encephalopathy after CMP (DECMP). Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy may be an effective therapeutic way, yet about 2.6% patients died from AECMP despite this treatment (Hampson and Hauff, 2008), and recovery from DECMP is unsatisfactory. Long had erythropoietin been used in anemic complication of renal failure before the discovery of its new function: anti-inflammation and neural protection. However, we haven't found any literatures about its utilization on AECMP or DECMP up to now. Here we report one AECMP and one DECMP case treated with erythropoietin to share our successful experience of using this "old" drug.
