Volcano event: Business thrives at the Hannover Messe despite the Icelandic volcano

It may be a long way away and its name is virtually unpronounceable for most other Europeans. Yet, the volcano concealed underneaththe Eyja-fjailajokull glacier in Iceland didn't succeed in spoiling things for the Hannover Messe, Germany's leading industrial exhibition - although it certainly tried extremely hard! Just before the Fair was due to open, Eu-ropean air traffic ground to a halt-when a massive eruption was followed by a gigantic ash cloud. Tourists, business travellers, exhibitors and fair' visitors were stranded at airports all over the world.
