Aeroradiometrische Messungenim Rahmen der ()bung ARM09

The measurement flig hts of the exercise ARM09 were performed between 22nd and 26th of June 2009 under the direction of G. Scharding of the National Emergency Operations Centre (NAZ) and coordination by the Expert Group for Aeroradio-metrics (FAR). According to the alternating schedule of the annual ARM exercises, the environs of the nuclear power plants Muhleberg (KKM) and Gosgen (KKG) were sur-veyed. The measurements showed similar results to those obtained in former years. The participation of the Swiss team in the tri-national exercise in Germany was main focus of this years program. Teams from Germany, France and Switzer-land participated in the exercise, which was organised by the German Office for Radiation Protection and the German Federal Police. The exercise areas were located in the vicinity of Munich and in the Upper Palatinate. As during the tri-national exercise in 2007, the Swiss team could profit also this year from the experience of the German and French colleagues. In spite of inclement weather, important aspects of aerogammaspectrometric measure-ments were investigated, especially due to the proficient choice of exercise tasks by the German organisators. One exercise demonstrated practically the difficul-ties in tracking moving carborne radioactive sources with the help of aero-gammaspectrometric measurements. Measurements in different altitudes above the Chiemsee presented for the Swiss measurement system open questions concerning the background and radon correction. The Swiss search strategy for hidden radioactive sources, revised according to the results of the 2007 tri-natio-nal exercise, performed well.
