The anodic behavior of electrolytically, as well asmechanically, polished Fe-Si(0-25 at.%Si) alloys in 1 N H2SO4was investigated. The beneficial influence of machining on theanodic behavior in the passive region was shown; however, it isunsubstantial at a sufficient alloying, which allows the electrolytictreatment of articles to be widely applied. The theory of thepotentiostatic formation of a steady-state passive film is found tobe applicable to the formal description of the passive state of the alloys.
