Sustainable urban mobility: a multicriteria experimental approach conducted in Brazil

Sustainable urban mobility proclaims non-motorised transportation, priority for pedestrians and focus on urban transportation. This work aims to provide an exploratory multicriteria analysis in order to obtain preliminary insights about the proximity of the practices of municipalities regarding the Brazilian National Policy on Urban Mobility. The ELECTRE III method was used to rank a set of Brazilian medium-sized municipalities concerning criteria which are supported on indicators in accordance with Brazilian National Policy for Mobility, the concept of sustainable urban mobility and scientific literature. As a result, Joinville is the best ranked municipality, followed by Serra and Niteroi. Strong attention must dedicated to issues regarding to the absence of dedicated lanes for bus circulation, the lack of information about the bus fleet with special accessibility for transportation of older and disabled people, and the lack of statistics on transit and traffic accidents/offenses.
