Combustion Efficiencies of Oil Industry Waste and Prospects for Use as Feed for Fluidised Bed Boilers

摘要

Oil/gas fired boilers till a few decades ago, generally met the steam requirements of industries for their process, captive power and co-generation need. However, as about 40% of these reserves have high ash, conventionally fired steam generators faced operational and maintenance problems. Bubbling Fluidised Bed Combustion boilers, commonly known as Atmospheric Fluidised Bed Combustion (AFBC) boilers, were preferred by industries as they could effectively utilise these low and varying quality coals, besides providing higher efficiencies than the waste from sponge iron plants, electrostatic precipitator dust, etc. These fuels have a large percentage of ash, very low volatiles and have a wide size range, which make them practically impossible for utilisation in conventioanl boilers. AFBC boilers can effectively and efficiently utilise these fuels in an environmentally clean way. In this project we have taken samples of neem oil cake from the nearby industry and utilised it as feed to AFBC.
