Genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance were studied in 13 genotypes and 9 F, of tomato. Theobservations were recorded on eleven traits related to yield, growth and processing characters. Considerablegenetic variability for marketable yield per hectare and its component characters was observed. The high estimatesof heritability in broad sense were obtained for yield components, pericarp thickness, TSS, ascorbic acid content,acidity and locule number per fruit. High heritability in association with high genetic advance observed formarketable yield per hectare, number of fruits per plant, plant height and yield per plant indicated additive geneaction for these traits and their effectiveness in selection for higher economic yield and quality in tomato.
