A field experiment was conducted at VPKAS, Almora to study the influence of FYM and N levels on storage behaviour of onion. Treatments consisted of two varieties viz., VL Piaz 3 & Pusa Red, two levels of FYM (0, 20 t/ha) and 4 doses of nitrogen (0, 50, 100 & 150 kg/ha). The bulbs produced under aforesaid treatments were used for storage study. Present findings showed that onion produced under the medium nitrogen dose (50-100 kg/ha) had minimum loss due to drying and rotting during storage. Further, high FYM (20 t/ha) also affected the storage quality of onion bulb probably by increasing the moisture content. The losses due to sprouting were found negligible. Bulb of onion variety Pusa Red exhibited better storage quality than VL Piaz-3.
