Studies on growth performance, survival and harvest index of Salvadora persica (Linn.), growing under Indian Thar desert

The present investigation was carried out with a progeny trial of four accessions (collections) of Salvadora persica collected from different localities of the Indian Thar desert, to evaluate their acclimatisation, adaptability and genetic variability as well as to assess the possibility of better selection for their large-scale plantation programmes in future. The plants collected from Jodhpur and Luni are relatively better with consistent growth performance throughout the trial. These accessions exhibited better plant height, collar diameter, survival and Harvest Index than the plants collected from Bhinrnal and Jalore areas.
