Banana (Musa spp.) is one of the important fruit crop in the world which accounts production of 40 million tonnes. India is reported as the largest producer in the world with production of 23.20 million tonnes from 0.65 million hactares and contributes to 19.71 per cent of global production. In India Maharastra has highest productivity of 62.90 MT against India's average of 34.75 MT per hectare in 2006-07. The other major banana growing states are Andra Pradesh, Kerala. Karnataka, Gujarat, Assam, Bihar. Orissa and Madhya Pradesh.
