A trial to evaluate the effect of graded levels of N (200 300,400, 500, 600, 700 and 800 g tree~(-1)) on fruit quality parameters and N uptake was conducted on 14-year-old 'Santa Rosa' plum (Prunus salieina L.) during 1992 and 1993. The fruit weight,size, total soluble solids, total sugars and reducing sugar content in fruit were observed to be highett at 500 g N level. However, the fruit firmness and titrable acidity tended to increase with increasing N levels. A direct relationship was observed to exist between N levels and leaf or fruit N. Application of 500 g N, with a basal dose ot 250 g P_2O_5 and 600 g K_2O tree~(-1) annually was found to be better for fruit quality and optimum leaf and fruit N status.
