Weed management in kharif crops

Weeds are a great problem in almost all kharif crops due to prevailing high temperature conditions and availability of plenty of moisture due to frequent rains. Depending upon crop, type of weed flora and its intensity level, weeds may reduce 25 to 50 percent crop yield and losses may be even more if weeds are not controlled timely. For realising best utiliation of applied inputs like irrigation, fertilizers etc. elimination of weed competition is of paramount importance. Weed management practices differ in different kharif crops and hence are discussed as under.
