MAIZE: processing and value addition

Punjab is making strides in baby corn crop cultivation. The crop is exported to UK and many European countries. Started from just 40 tonnes in 2006-07, the export has touched 500 tonnes in 2012. Maize is grown throughout the world in a wide range of agro ecological environments. About 50 species exist which vary in color, texture, grain shape and size. Yellow, red and white are the most common types. The yellow and white varieties are preferred by most people depending on the region.
