Agronomic practices to get higher yield of late sown wheat

Wheat is an important cereal crop of Punjab that occupies about 35 lakh hectares. About 90 per cent of area in Punjab is under timely sown wheat. In areas where crop rotations like basmati rice-wheat, maize/rice/groundnut-potato-wheat, ratoon sugarcane-wheat and rice/maize-vegetable peas-wheat are followed, the wheat sowing generally gets delayed. Under late sown conditions, the grain yield of wheat crop generally reduced. However, there improved package of practices under delayed sowing of this crop will help to get optimum wheat grain.
