Management of insect pests and nematodes in tomato

Tomato is an important summer vegetable crop of Punjab, grown over an area of 6.14 hectare with a productionl 48.86 thousand tons. Like other vegetable crops, tomato is also attacked by number of insect pests and diseases. Among them aphids, whitefly,fruit borer and root knot nematode are the major limiting factors in its cultivation. Proper identification of insect pests and their damage symptoms and timely management of these pests help in reduction of the crop losses. In this article, major insect pests of tomato are discussed.
