Integrated management of stem borers in basmati rice

Basmati rice is very susceptible to attack of many insect pests, Of these, stem borer is a serious pest and is known to cause severe losses if unchecked. Basmati occupies special status in rice cultivation and is preferred by people because of its excellent cooking quality and aroma. Basmati rice fetches substantially higher price then the coarse grain varieties of rice. Moreover, it has great export potential. Punjab government has also encouraged cultivation of this crop in the through contract farming.
