Control wheat diseases by agronomic techniques

Some agronomical strategies can help in keeping diseases under control and increasing the productivity of wheat. During 2008-09 the total area under wheat in Punjab was 35.26 lakh ha with a production of 157.20 lakh tonnes and productivity of 4457 kg/ha. The crop needs cool climate during the early parts of its growth as warm temperature is unfavourable for tillering and promotes diseases. Heavy rains result in heavy incidence of rusts. Some agronomical strategies can help in increasing the productivity of wheat and keeping diseases under control.
