摘要

The inherent fertility of soils of kandi region is low due to coarse textured and low use of fertilizers. PAU has evolved a few improved techniques for increasing the productivity of rainfed wheat in this region. The inadequate irrigation facilities in submontane region of Punjab and water table being too deep to be exploited by the individual farmers make farming a difficult task. The success of crop cultivation, especially the rabi crops, are mainly dependent on rains. The rainfall of this region is sufficient to take two crops during rabi and kharif seasons. The ill-distribution of rains (more than 80 per cent of the annual rainfall occurs during the short period of July-September) and the high runoff rates in the region due to undulating topography leads to lower soil recharge and high downstream losses of rainwater.
