PBW 590 : an addition to the list of recommended wheat varieties

During2008-09, 63.64percent of total wheat area in Punjab was occupied by PBW 343 followed by 14.06 per cent under the variety PBW 502. The newly released variety PBW 550 was grown on 5.59 percent of wheat area. This year, a new variety of bread wheat PBW 590 has been released. Besides this, the other presently recommended wheat varieties for specific production conditions would be mentioned briefly to choose appropriate variety.
