Punjab's agriculture is passing through critical phase that demands for increased technical/input use efficiency right from production to consumption. IT is well accepted that Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has been playing a pivotal role in addressing the issue of 'Nation's Food Security'and upgrading the Punjab's stature as 'Cereal Grain Basket' of India. The agricultural development in Punjab following the establishment of PAU in 1962 can be divided into three phases. "Green Revolution" during 70's followed the development of fertiliser and irrigation responsive high yielding varieties (HYV's) as a consequence of .exploiting dwarf genes and hybridisation techniques. At the same time, the policies of government to extend the agriculturalproduction technologies and the responsive peasantry played an equivalent role for the exemplary increase in food grain production.
