Efficient and judicious use of fertilizers and irrigation water is must for getting higher production at low cost. SUNFLOWER is an important oilseed crop of Punjab. Spring sowing of sunflower, grown after potato, is most appropriate because of ensured crop and high yields. It contains 40-43 percent oil, which because of low cholesterol and good quality, is used for production of refined oil and vegetable ghee. Sunflower cultivation in Punjab is done mostly in the potato growing districts like Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahrand Jalandhar. Forgetting higher returns from this crop there is need to improve the productivity as well as to decrease the production cost. Efficient and judicious use of fertilizers and irrigation water contributes to it significantly.
