Basmati has pleasant and exquisite aroma, soft texture and extra elongation with least breadth wise expansion after cooking. It fetches a premium in domestic as well as international market. BASMATI is natures gift to Punjab and is cultivated since time immemorial. Basmati rices are endowed with unique quality features, peculiar fragrance, taste and texture which develop under specific geographical demarcation and make it best among the aromatic rices of the world. Basmati occupies only 4-5% of total rice area in Punjab. The climatic conditions of Punjab are highly suitable for cultivation of basmati rice. It is grown in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahars Ropar and Patiala districts.
