Reducing count of broken rice in milling

In conventional rice mills, head rice yield is 46-48 per cent whereas broken rice yield is as high as 22-26 per cent under normal conditions. However, with good milling practices, the broken count can be reduced to 5-7 per cent. Broken count can be reduced by following some basic precautions. QUALITY of rice is seen as the percentage of head rice with minimum broken. The total yield of milled rice obtained from paddy varies from 60% to 75%. With good milling practices, the head yield can go upto 65 percent and broken kernels can be reduced to 5-7 percent. But in conventional rice mills, the head rice yield is only upto 46-48 percent and brokens are as high as 22-26 percent under normal conditions. Broken percentage can be reduced by following some basic things.
