Amphistomosis is a group of diseases of considerable economic importance in several states of India including Punjab. Outbreaks generally occur in post-monsoon months particularly October to March. Adult paramphistomes are found mainly in the forestomach of ruminants, although a few species occur in the intestine of ruminants i.e. cattle, sheep and goat. All species of Amphistomes require a water snail as an intermediate host. So during these months there is increased concentration of snails and metacercaria nearby ponds. So more chances of infection andthe mortality may go very high during an outbreak.
