Paddy stem borers feed on growing points and cause dead hearts and white erect ears. Check attack of borers in basmati rice by spraying 350 ml Hostathion 40 EC or 560 ml of Nuvacron/ Monocil 36 SL or one litre of Coroban/Dursban/Lethal/ Chlorguard/Durmet/Classic 20 EC in 100 litres of water on basmati rice, give 5 sprays at 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 days after transplanting by using the above insecticides alternately. These pests can also be controlled by applying 4 kg Dursban 10 G or 6 kg Regent 0.3 G or 10 kg Padan/Kritap/Sanvex/ Caldan/Nidan 4 G or 7.5 kg Sevidol 4:4 G per acre in standing water thrice at 30, 50 and 70 days after transplanting. Dursban/Regent/Padan/Kritap/Sanvex/ Caidan 4 G also controls leaf folder effectively. If high humidity and cloudy weather persists, the crop may be sprayed with Biitox/copper oxychloride 50 WP @ 500 g in 200 litres of water per acre to control false smut and repeat the spray after 10 days of its application. Start spray at boot stage of the crop. To save the crop from sheath blight, keep the bunds of the fields clean by removing grass. On noticing thedisease symptoms spray with Bavistin @ 200 g/200 litres of water per acre.
