THE white ant or the termites are among the commoner insect pests and are responsible for colossal damage to wood in all its various forms wooden building structure, wooden furniture, all articles containing cellulose-like paper, even decaying matterlike cow dung, living plants like forest trees and agricultural crops, etc. They live underground but make small earthen mounds or earthen passages, that are visible above the ground. On opening a portion of an earthen passage, greyish-white wingless insects are seen moving towards or away from the centre of there nest, where the queen of the colony resides.
