TARAMIRA also called rocket salad is grown as a rainfed oilseed crop on poor sandy soils particularly in Ropar, Hoshtarpur, some areas of Gurdaspur and Ludhiana districts. It is mainly used for animal consumption because of high content of toxic alkaloids which make the oil bitter and irritant. In the past this crop was considered free from insect pests. But under Punjab conditions it is attacked by 6 species of insects and one species of mite. Out of these insects, aphid (Mygus persicae) has been found causing serious damage to this crop.
