Benzene demand contracts by 3% in 2001: CMAI

Chemical Market Associates, Inc. (CMAI), which recently completed the 2002 World Benzene Analysis, has termed the year gone by, 2001, "as one of the worst years in history for benzene." According to CMAI'S analysis, the economic slowdown and inventory destocking resulted ina global contraction in demand of around 3% - the first such contraction on a global basis since 1982. North America was hit the hardest experiencing a reduction in demand in the US of 15%.
