ASIB - The Culture Collection of Algae at the Botanical Institute, Innsbruck, Austria

摘要

A short history of the foundation, development and status of the Culture Collection of Algae at the Botanical Institute of the University of Innsbruck (Austria) is given. The collection specializes in the culture of terrestrial, airborne and lichen algae and comprises of more than 2000 strains, mostly from alpine areas of central Europe. The long-term survival of the collection depends on support and facilities from the University for research in taxonomy, but also requires increased publicity and understanding of its value as a part of our microbial heritage. This should be supported by better cooperation and "networking" between other collections in the future.
