Iran ranks second in the world in terms of gas resources (four times larger than that of Saudi Arabia) and fifth in place of oil reserves. While there are attempts to exploit these commodities, including efforts to ship gas to India through a pipeline crossing Pakistan, Iran has identified petrochemical production as a value addition and is working to improve the monetisation of a raw material that has little alternative value.
