A study was conducted in Poland to evaluate nicosulfuron residue degradation rate in soil depending on tillage system. Phytotoxic effect (decrease of dry weight in comparison to the control) of nicosulfuron on white mustard [Sinapis alba] (test plant) sown in soil (0-10 cm layer) from the conventional and reduced tillage systems was observed in samples taken at 2-6 weeks after herbicide application. In soil samples taken from 10-20 cm layer, for both systems of tillage, the toxic residues were observed up to 8 weeks after treatment. In soil samples (for both tillage systems) taken at harvest time, the phytotoxic effect was not observed. Dry weight of plants sown in soil taken at harvest time was similar to that of the control..
