The influence of herbicides on selected qualitative traits in potato.

A field experiment was carried out during 2005-06 in Poland to evaluate the quality of potato cultivars Balbina and Irga subjected to different weeding methods, which included the control (mechanical sanitation) and three variants of mechanical-chemical measures with the use of herbicides Plateen 41.5 WG [flufenacet], Racer 250 EC [flurochloridone] and Sencor 70 WG [metribuzin]. The herbicides decreased the content of dry mass and starch in potato tubers. The lowest contents of dry mass and starch were obtained with Racer 25 EC, with amounts of 19.50 and 11.97%, respectively. The highest amounts of dry mass and starch were obtained from the control.
