Field and laboratory experiments were conducted in poland, in 2007-08, to assess the reaction of selected potato cultivars (registered from 2003 to 2007) to dry and soft rot pathogens. At harvest time, 10 kg samples of tubers were taken from all plots. The natural infection of tubers was assessed twice. Two samples were assessed in autumn (post harvest) and 2 of them in the spring (after storage). The level of natural infection of dry and soft rot was calculated as percent weight of tuber sample. Additionally, the reaction of potato cultivars to pathogens causing dry and soft rot was tested after artificial infection in laboratory conditions. Analysis of test results did not show statistically significant differences among the tested genotypes in the level of natural soft and dry rot infections and resistance to soft rot pathogens under laboratory conditions. There were significant differences in the level of dry rot after artificial infection. The cultivars Cyprian, Agnes and Jelly were more susceptible to dry rot than the standards. Among the tested genotypes, Ewelina, Czapla and Ursus, had higher disease resistance.
