Phytophthora citrophthora - a new pathogen of ornamental and forest plants in Poland.

Phytophthora citrophthora was isolated from most of spruce, priver and lilak plants showing root and stem base rot as well as tip blight. Additionally Botrytis cinerea and Fusarium species were frequently isolated. Isolates of P. citrophthora from 3 plant genera and additionally from Podocarpus alpinus caused necrosis of leaves and stem parts of all tested plants. On Picea species necrosis spread significantly faster when plants were inoculated with isolate from P. pungens and the slowest when culture from Syringa vulgaris was used. In case of lilak, the slowest development of necrosis was observed on leaves and stem parts inoculated with the isolate from P. pungens.
