Effect of cereal cultivars on the development of lesser grain borer (Rhyzopertha dominica F.).

The development of R. dominica on the grains of spring wheat (Monsum and Histra), winter wheat (Rywalka and Piko), and winter triticale (Witon) cultivars were studied. The following characteristics were determined: number of offsprings, number of damaged kernels, loss of grain mass, and amount of dust produced due to the foraging activity of the insects. The results suggested that the lesser grain borer could be a threat to stored grains of Monsum, which was a highly suitable habitat for the development of this insect. The pest, however, did not develop on the grains of Rywalka and Witon..
