The Second Special Cardio-Oncology Issue of Progress in Pediatric Cardiology: Closing remarks and hopes for the future

With this special issue of Progress in Pediatric Cardiology, we introduce peer-reviewed original articles, in addition to review articles, for the first time in the journal's history. Progress in Pediatric Cardiology is now open to submissions for original articles for publication in ongoing issues.In this special issue, the chairs, speakers, and discussants of the First International Colloquium on Cardio-Oncology formally conclude their second cardio-oncology special issue to disseminate some of the thoughts and ideas raised at the meeting. Again, at this point, we like thoughts and ideas better than "findings" or "discoveries" because the Colloquium was run to scrutinize the strengths and weaknesses of established facts rather than to elaborate on paradigms based on speculation. The contents of the first special issue were quite eloquent in that respect. The Colloquium community focused on such pragmatic issues as defining cardiotoxicity, approximating risk-to-benefit ratios in children and adults, and bringing attention to the unjustified limitations to the clinical use of dexrazoxane.
