The self-assemble layer (SAL) of 1-dodecanethiol (12CSH) and tridecafluoro-1-decanethiol (17FSH) on B10 surface is prepared via a facile immersion process. The corrosion inhibition effect of the SAL in natural seawater is investigated by potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and scanning electronic microscope. Polarization curves indicate that SAL mainly behaves as a hybrid type corrosion inhibitor. By increasing thiol concentration, the inhibition efficiency increases accordingly. At the concentration of 10mM, 12CSH and 17FSH SAL act as effective corrosion inhibitors with inhibition efficiency of 91.6% and 96.4%, respectively. SAL attaching onto B10 surface follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm, and Delta G(ads) values indicate the adsorption is a spontaneous process by hybrid chemisorption-physisorption.
