The management of effluents following phytosanitary treatments is discussed. Relevant terms are defined. The context is outlined, with reference to current regulations in France. Procedures for management of pesticide effluents are listed and treatment systems are described briefly, including concentration, physicochemical degradation and biological degradation of active substances. The different procedures are compared. It is concluded that integration of regulation, good agicultural practices and technological capacities are essential for treatment of spray effluents..
