Whereas the seminal text, Boundaries and Landmarks, relied on previous resources including Wait's Law of Operations, it has also been relied on or referred to by subsequent titles, from its publication in 1912 to present time. Boundaries and Landmarks was recognized by several authors soon after its release. For example, Ernest McCullough, C.E., highly praised the efforts of Mulford. McCullough was an author also from New York who wrote Practical Surveying for surveyors' assistants, vocational, and high schools, published in 1915 by the same company as Boundaries and Landmarks. He stated in his preface, "The first-class land surveyor the author has found is a respected person in his community, and rightly so. Every reader of this book is counseled to buy and read "Boundaries and Landmarks," by A.C. Mulford, to obtain the point of view of the successful surveyor proud of his calling, the most ancient of the learned arts and sciences. To read that book gives something all young men need and should appreciate, the nearest possible equivalent to association with an elderly, well-read, kindly gentleman of broad experience in his calling."
