The room -temperature Mossbauer spectra (MS) of natural FeS2 ( pyrite ) samples of different origin have been obtained showing one or several quadrupole doublets (QS) corresponding to the hyperfine interaction between 57Fe MSssbauer isotope in ferrous ion and electric field gradient of its surrounding. In addition to the more intense QS of dominant pyrite, supplementary QS are also present, suggesting the presence of subrnicroscopic inclusions of marcasite and probably of FeAsS (in As-rich pyrites). The MS have been proved to give a more correct and detailed insight into the history of mineral formation, starting with less stable iron compounds, as in the case of at least two of the investigated pyrite samples.
