摘要

The US EPA has been at the forefront of employing sound science for screening and testing of chemicals for endocrine-disrupting potential. Much has happened over the past 20 years, since the broader scientific community became aware that chemicals may pose a significant risk of disrupting endocrine pathways in humans and wildlife. These efforts started with the passage of the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) of 1996 that included a legislative mandate for the creation of the EPA Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program (EDSP). Also in 1996, an amendment to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) required screening of drinking water contaminants for possible endocrine effects.
