Chemical diversity and the data market: an SME view

The data market created by REACH’s “no data, no market” rule, is producing winners and losers, just like any market. Those companies which had invested in lots of toxicity and ecotoxicity studies before the EU Regulation’s adoption (usually the larger chemical producers), suddenly found themselves the owners of a valuable resource; those without such studies (generally SMEs), and without public data to call on for their substances, must buy access to studies by acquiring letters of access (LoAs).
