Some NGOs want the fashion brands to be tough with suppliers that don’t meet phase-out deadlines. The only way to make the Greenpeace commitments real, says the Natural Resources Defense Council’s Linda Greer, “is for the sourcing team to contractually require them, with consequences – suspension or termination of business – for failure to do so. In fact, it is the sourcing team that needs to own the Greenpeace commitments, not the CSR shop.”
