The precious metals markets were not spared from the death, devastation, and grief wrought by the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, four airliners, and on the broader United States of America on September 11, 2001.The New York Mercantile Exchange and Commodities Exchange metals exchanges had moved from the Trade Center to the World Financial Center across the street in 1997, but many metals trading and brokerage companies were housed in the WTC and surrounding buildings.
